How to Read the
Hyperliquid Leaderboard
And What to Actually Look For

📅 October 2026 ⏱ 11 min read 🏆 Platform Guide
The leaderboard shows you exactly what the best traders on Hyperliquid are doing — open positions, trade history, win rate, real-time P&L. Most traders glance at it and move on. This guide shows you how to actually use it.
THE HYPERLIQUID LEADERBOARD — WHAT EACH COLUMN ACTUALLY TELLS YOU Rank / Wallet Address + optional display name Click to view history PnL ($) Total dollar profit over the period Misleading without ROI ROI (%) Return on capital deployed Most important metric Volume Total notional traded over the period Context for scale Time Window Day / Week / Month / All-time filter Always check all-time Wallet Detail View (click) Open positions · trade history Entry prices · leverage used The real intelligence is here
One of the most underused features on Hyperliquid is sitting in plain sight. The leaderboard at app.hyperliquid.xyz/leaderboard shows you — in real time, completely publicly — exactly what the best-performing traders on the platform are doing. Their open positions. Their entry prices. Their leverage. Their historical trades. All of it, on-chain and visible to anyone.
Most beginners either ignore it entirely or misread it by focusing on the wrong numbers. This guide covers how the leaderboard actually works, which metrics matter and which mislead, how to spot genuine skill versus lucky leverage, and how to use it as a practical research tool rather than a scoreboard.

Where to Find the Leaderboard and How It’s Structured

Navigate to app.hyperliquid.xyz/leaderboard — you don’t need to be logged in or connected to view it. The leaderboard is fully public.
1
Time filter. The first thing to set is the time window — 1 day, 7 days, 30 days, or all-time. Each gives a completely different picture. A trader who ranks #1 on a 1-day view could be #500 all-time. Always check multiple windows before drawing any conclusions about a wallet.
2
Sort by PnL or ROI. The default sort is by dollar PnL. You can switch to sort by ROI (return on investment as a percentage). These two sorts give very different leaderboards — more on why this matters below.
3
Click any wallet. This is where the real information is. Clicking a wallet address opens a full view of that trader’s current open positions, historical trades, entry prices, sizes, leverage used, and realised/unrealised P&L. Everything is public and on-chain. You are reading their actual trading record.

PnL vs ROI — Why You’re Looking at the Wrong Number

This is the single most important thing to understand about the leaderboard. The default sort by dollar PnL is the most misleading way to read it.
⚠️ Dollar PnL — misleading on its own
Trader A made $2,000,000 in profit. Sounds incredible. But if they deployed $40,000,000 in capital to do it, their ROI is just 5%. A trader with a $50,000 account who made $25,000 has a 50% ROI with far less capital at risk. Sorting by dollar PnL mostly shows you who has the largest accounts — not who is the best trader.
✅ ROI % — the number that matters
ROI shows the return on the capital actually deployed. A 200% ROI means the trader doubled their capital and then some. This is the metric that separates genuine skill from large capital at modest efficiency. When looking for traders worth studying, sort by ROI — especially over 30-day and all-time windows where short-term luck is harder to sustain.
💡 The combination to look for
A trader who appears in the top 100 by both dollar PnL and ROI % over a 30-day window is the most interesting signal. High dollar PnL confirms they’re running meaningful size. High ROI confirms they’re doing it efficiently. Either alone is insufficient — both together is a much stronger indicator of genuine edge.

How to Read a Wallet — What to Look at When You Click Through

Once you click through to a wallet, you’re looking at their full trading record. Here’s a methodical way to evaluate what you see.
📈 Step 1 — Check the trade count
A trader who made 500% ROI on 3 trades may have just gotten very lucky. A trader who made 150% ROI across 800 trades has a statistically meaningful track record. Look for traders with high trade counts before treating their ROI as evidence of skill. More trades means less luck and more signal. A high ROI on fewer than 20–30 trades tells you very little.
📈 Step 2 — Check which markets they trade
Some traders dominate in BTC and ETH — the deepest, most liquid, hardest-to-edge markets. Others focus on smaller altcoin perps with lower liquidity and higher potential moves. Both are valid approaches, but they require completely different skills. Understanding which markets a trader specialises in tells you whether their edge is relevant to your own trading style and the markets you want to trade.
📈 Step 3 — Check the leverage used
A 300% ROI on 3x leverage is fundamentally different from the same ROI on 50x leverage. High leverage amplifies both wins and the risk of ruin — a trader consistently using 30–50x and showing positive returns over many trades is either genuinely skilled or hasn’t had their bad day yet. A high-ROI trader using modest leverage (3–10x) is the more sustainable and trustworthy signal. The leverage used is visible in the trade history.
📈 Step 4 — Look at the win rate AND average win vs loss size
A 40% win rate can be highly profitable if winners are 3x the size of losers (R:R of 3:1). A 70% win rate can be unprofitable if every loss is 5x the size of every win. Don’t evaluate win rate in isolation — look at it alongside average winning trade size vs average losing trade size. The combination of these two numbers tells you whether the trader has a real edge or is just cutting winners short and letting losers run.
📈 Step 5 — Check the open positions right now
The open positions panel shows you exactly what a top trader is holding at this moment — the market, direction (long/short), entry price, size, and unrealised P&L. This is live, real-time market intelligence. If multiple high-ROI traders you’ve identified are all currently long BTC with similar entry prices, that’s a meaningful signal worth noting. It doesn’t mean you copy the trade — it means you factor it into your own analysis.

Red Flags — How to Spot Luck vs Genuine Skill

Not every top-ranked wallet deserves attention. Here are the patterns that suggest a lucky streak rather than repeatable edge.
❌
Very high ROI on very few trades
A wallet showing 1,000% ROI on 5 trades is almost certainly luck or a single leveraged bet that happened to work. Without statistical significance (50+ trades minimum, 200+ is better), ROI numbers are noise. Filter these out.
❌
Consistently extreme leverage (30x–50x)
High leverage inflates ROI dramatically on winning trades. Someone running 50x on every trade and showing 400% monthly ROI is taking catastrophic risk. One bad trade ends it. This isn’t a strategy worth learning from — it’s a time bomb. These wallets often disappear from the leaderboard completely within weeks.
❌
Great 7-day rank, poor 30-day or all-time rank
Any trader can have a great week. If someone is in the top 20 on a 7-day view but outside the top 500 on the 30-day view, their recent performance is an outlier, not their baseline. Always cross-reference multiple time windows.
❌
Large unrealised losses being carried
Check the open positions panel. A trader with a strong realised PnL who is currently sitting on a large unrealised loss may be holding a bad position too long — exactly the kind of behaviour that eventually wipes out. The realised P&L looks good right up until the unrealised loss is closed at a loss.

Green Flags — What Genuine Edge Looks Like

✓
Consistent top-100 presence across multiple time windows — appears in 7-day, 30-day, and all-time rankings. Consistency over time is the most reliable signal of real skill.
✓
High trade count (200+) with positive ROI — statistical significance separates luck from edge. The more trades behind the number, the more meaningful it is.
✓
Moderate leverage (3–10x) with strong ROI — making strong returns at modest leverage means the underlying trading decisions are good, not just the leverage multiplier. This is the most sustainable form of edge.
✓
Clean, small open positions relative to account size — disciplined position sizing on the open positions panel. No giant concentrated bets that could blow the account in one move.

How to Actually Use the Leaderboard as a Trading Tool

The leaderboard is useful even if you never plan to copy a single trade. Here are the most practical ways to incorporate it into your research process.
👀 Confluence check
Before entering a trade, check the open positions of 3–5 wallets you’ve previously identified as consistently skilled. If most of them are positioned in the same direction as your setup, that’s additional confluence. If they’re positioned against you, treat that as a reason to re-examine your thesis before entering.
📚 Study trade structure
Look at the entry prices and position sizes of consistently successful wallets. Are they entering at support/resistance? Are they sizing small and adding? Are they using tight stops? The trade history tells you how they structure positions, not just whether they win — that structure is what’s actually worth learning from.
📋 Build a watchlist
Identify 5–10 wallets that consistently meet your criteria (high trade count, moderate leverage, multi-window top rankings) and bookmark them. Check these wallets’ open positions as part of your pre-session routine. Over time you’ll build an intuition for their style and learn from it passively.
🔎 Validate your own performance
You can look up your own wallet address in the leaderboard. Where do you rank on ROI over 30 days? Over all-time? If you’re not in the top half on ROI, your process needs work regardless of what your raw P&L number says. Use it as an honest benchmark for your own trading.
⚠️ The Copy-Trading Trap — Read This Before You Mirror Anyone
The leaderboard is a research tool, not a signal service. Copying a trade you see in a top wallet’s open positions is high-risk for several reasons: you don’t know their stop-loss level; you don’t know their position sizing context; you don’t know whether they’re adding, reducing, or about to exit; and you’ll almost certainly enter later at a worse price. The right way to use leaderboard data is as one input into your own analysis — not as a replacement for it. See the tools guide for third-party platforms like Copin that handle copy-trading with proper risk controls if that’s what you want: Best Hyperliquid Tools for Traders.

Frequently Asked Questions

No — wallet viewing is completely anonymous. You can look at any wallet’s full trade history, open positions, and performance metrics without them knowing. This is a fundamental property of public blockchains: all transactions are visible to anyone, but viewing them generates no notification or record for the wallet owner. Use this freely.
The leaderboard tracks trading P&L only — not HLP vault yields or staking returns. A wallet that has earned significant passive income from the HLP vault or from staking HYPE would not appear on the trading leaderboard for those earnings. It’s purely a measure of trading performance: realised and unrealised gains from opening and closing perp positions.
The leaderboard updates continuously in near-real-time — Hyperliquid’s own L1 blockchain processes orders in under a second, and the leaderboard reflects this. Open positions and unrealised P&L update as market prices move. Realised P&L updates as positions are closed. For practical purposes, treat it as live data — what you see when you open a wallet reflects their current state to within seconds.
Yes — several third-party tools built on top of Hyperliquid’s public data offer wallet tracking and alerts. Hypurr.fun shows real-time large trades and liquidations and can send Telegram alerts when a wallet crosses a size threshold. Copin.io lets you track specific wallet addresses, monitor their performance metrics over time, and even set up copy-trading with risk controls. These tools handle the monitoring so you don’t have to check manually. Full breakdown in the Best Hyperliquid Tools guide.

The Bottom Line

The Hyperliquid leaderboard is one of the most valuable free research tools in DeFi — and almost nobody uses it properly. Sort by ROI not dollar PnL. Cross-reference multiple time windows. Filter for high trade counts. Check leverage used. Build a watchlist of 5–10 wallets whose approach you want to learn from, and check their open positions as part of your pre-session routine.
You don’t need to copy anyone’s trades. You need to understand how the best participants in your market are thinking — and the leaderboard tells you exactly that, in real time, for free.

The leaderboard is the first thing I open before any trading session. Not to copy anyone — I’ve got my own setups and I trade them based on my own analysis. But spending 3 minutes checking what the consistently best wallets are holding right now is free information that sometimes confirms a setup I’m already looking at, and occasionally saves me from entering something that the best traders on the platform are positioned against. It’s one of those habits that pays for itself quietly over hundreds of trades.
