Hyperliquid is a decentralized exchange that lives on-chain. Your profits sit as USDC in a self-custody account — which is a great thing for security and control. But getting that USDC from a DeFi wallet all the way to actual dollars in your checking account involves a few steps that aren’t obvious the first time you try to do it. Most people figure it out eventually, but a surprising number of beginners get stuck somewhere in the middle — usually at the bridge, or at the point where they realize their exchange account isn’t verified yet.
This guide covers the full route from Hyperliquid to your bank — every step, the fastest options, the cheapest options, and the common mistakes to avoid. Whether you’re cashing out $500 or $50,000, the process is the same. Let’s walk through it.
4 Steps Total
~30m To Exchange
1–3d To Bank (ACH)
<1% Total Fees (typical)
🇺🇸 US users: You need a VPN to access Hyperliquid from the US. I use FastVPN by Namecheap. Once your funds are withdrawn from Hyperliquid into your wallet, you no longer need the VPN for the rest of this process — the exchange and bank steps work normally.

Before You Start — What You Need

Before beginning the cash-out process, make sure you have these three things in place. If you’re missing any of them, sort them out first — trying to rush the cash-out without them is how people get stuck.
1
A self-custody wallet (MetaMask or equivalent)
This is the wallet you used to connect to Hyperliquid — the same wallet your USDC will be withdrawn into. MetaMask is the most common. Make sure you have your seed phrase backed up somewhere safe before moving any significant amount. See the full MetaMask setup guide if you need to get started.
2
A verified CEX account (Coinbase or Kraken recommended)
A centralised exchange (CEX) is the bridge between crypto and traditional banking. You need a verified account — meaning government ID submitted and approved, and your bank account linked for withdrawals. This can take 1–3 days to verify if you’re new. Do this before you need it. Coinbase is the most beginner-friendly for US users. Kraken tends to have lower withdrawal fees for larger amounts.
3
A small amount of ETH in your wallet for gas fees
Moving assets on-chain requires gas — a small transaction fee paid in ETH. Hyperliquid withdrawals to Arbitrum cost very little (often under $0.50), but you’ll need some ETH in your MetaMask wallet on the right network to cover it. If your wallet is empty of ETH, you can’t send any transactions regardless of how much USDC you have. Keep a small ETH buffer — $5–10 worth covers dozens of transactions.

Step 1 — Withdraw Your USDC From Hyperliquid

Hyperliquid holds your funds in what it calls the “Perp” account (for trading) and the “Spot” account. Before withdrawing, make sure any active positions are closed and your USDC is sitting in your account balance, not deployed as margin.
1.
Go to app.hyperliquid.xyz (using your VPN if in the US) and connect your wallet.
2.
Close any open positions you want to cash out. Your realised P&L will settle to your USDC balance.
3.
If you have funds in HLP vault, initiate the unlock first — it takes 4 days to process before you can withdraw those funds.
4.
Click Portfolio → Withdraw (or the Withdraw button on the main dashboard). Enter the amount of USDC you want to withdraw.
5.
The withdrawal destination is your connected wallet address on Arbitrum. Hyperliquid’s L1 settles to Arbitrum by default. Confirm the transaction in MetaMask.
6.
Wait for confirmation — typically under 5 minutes. You’ll see the USDC arrive in your MetaMask wallet on the Arbitrum network. Check by switching MetaMask to the Arbitrum One network.
⚠️ Always double-check the withdrawal address. Crypto transactions are irreversible. Before confirming, verify that the destination address in the withdrawal field matches your MetaMask wallet address exactly. Never copy an address from an email or message — always use the copy button directly from your wallet.

Step 2 — Get Your USDC to a Centralised Exchange

Your USDC is now in your MetaMask wallet on Arbitrum. The next step is getting it to a centralised exchange (Coinbase, Kraken, or similar) where you can sell it for USD and then withdraw to your bank. There are two approaches depending on which network your exchange supports.
✅ Option A — Send USDC Direct (Simplest)
Some exchanges (Coinbase, Kraken) support USDC deposits directly on Arbitrum. If yours does, this is the easiest route — you simply send USDC from your MetaMask wallet to your exchange deposit address, selecting Arbitrum as the network.
1. Log in to your CEX
2. Go to Deposit → USDC
3. Select Arbitrum as the network
4. Copy your deposit address
5. Send from MetaMask to that address
6. Wait for confirmation (~2–10 min)
⚡ Option B — Bridge First (If Exchange Needs Ethereum)
If your exchange only accepts USDC on Ethereum mainnet (or Base), you’ll bridge first. Use the Arbitrum native bridge or a third-party bridge like Stargate Finance to move your USDC from Arbitrum to Ethereum or Base, then send to the exchange.
1. Go to bridge.arbitrum.io or stargate.finance
2. Connect MetaMask
3. Bridge USDC: Arbitrum → Ethereum
4. Wait (~10–20 min for Arbitrum bridge)
5. Then send to your CEX deposit address
💡 Which Exchange Should I Use?
Coinbase (US best for beginners)
Supports Arbitrum USDC deposits directly. Instant ACH withdrawals to linked bank (small fee). Very beginner-friendly interface. Lower limits on instant withdrawals.
Kraken (US best for larger amounts)
Lower fees on larger withdrawals. Wire transfers available for same-day USD. Accepts USDC on multiple networks. Slightly more complex interface but better fee structure for $10K+.
🚨 Network mismatch warning: Always confirm the network selected in MetaMask matches the network your exchange is expecting. Sending USDC on Arbitrum to an Ethereum-only deposit address can result in lost funds. When in doubt, start with a small test transaction of $5–10 before sending the full amount.

Step 3 — Sell Your USDC for USD on the Exchange

Once your USDC lands in your exchange account, converting it to USD is straightforward. USDC is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the US dollar, so this isn’t really a trade — it’s just converting between a digital dollar (USDC) and a real dollar (USD). You should receive essentially the same amount, minus a small conversion fee.
1.
On Coinbase: go to Assets → USDC → Sell. Select USD as the destination. Confirm the amount and click Sell. The conversion is instant.
2.
On Kraken: go to Trade → USDC/USD pair. Place a market sell order for your USDC balance. The USD lands in your Kraken cash balance instantly.
3.
Some exchanges let you convert directly without a trade. Look for a Convert button — USDC → USD — which skips the trading interface entirely and is simpler for beginners.
Fee reality check: Converting USDC to USD on Coinbase costs roughly 0–0.5% depending on your account level. On Kraken it’s typically 0.2% or less on a market order. On $1,000 that’s $2–5. Nothing to stress about — but worth knowing so you’re not surprised by the small difference between your USDC amount and your USD balance after conversion.

Step 4 — Withdraw USD From the Exchange to Your Bank

The final step — moving your USD balance from the exchange into your actual bank account. This is where most of the waiting happens. The timeline depends on the withdrawal method you choose.
ACH Transfer
1–3 Days
Standard bank transfer
Free or very low fee. Goes to your linked checking account. Best for non-urgent withdrawals. Available on Coinbase and Kraken.
Instant ACH (Coinbase)
Minutes
~1.5% fee
Faster but costs more. Coinbase offers instant USD withdrawal to linked bank for a small percentage fee. Good for when you need the money quickly.
Wire Transfer
Same Day
$10–25 fee typically
Best for large amounts ($10K+). Flat fee means lower percentage cost on bigger withdrawals. Available on Kraken and most major exchanges. Same-day if initiated before cutoff.
1.
On your exchange, go to Withdraw → USD → Bank Account.
2.
Select your linked bank account. If you haven’t linked one yet, you’ll need to add it and verify — this typically takes 1–2 business days via micro-deposits or instant verification.
3.
Choose ACH (standard, free, 1–3 days) or wire (faster, small fee, larger amounts). Enter the amount and confirm.
✅
That’s it. Your USD will appear in your bank account within 1–3 business days for ACH, or the same day for wires initiated before the exchange’s daily cutoff (typically 3–4 PM ET).

Common Mistakes That Get People Stuck

These are the most common places the cash-out process breaks down for first-timers. Knowing them in advance saves you a lot of frustration.
🚨
Wrong network on the exchange deposit
Sending Arbitrum USDC to an exchange address set up for Ethereum mainnet. Always triple-check the network before sending. When in doubt, send a $5 test transaction first.
⏳
Exchange account not verified yet
You can’t withdraw USD to your bank without a verified account. ID verification takes 1–3 business days. Set your account up before you need it — not when you’re trying to cash out.
🔒
HLP vault funds still locked
HLP deposits have a 4-day unlock period. If part of your balance is in the vault and you didn’t initiate the unlock in advance, you’ll have to wait. Plan your cash-out 4+ days ahead if you have vault funds.
⛽
No ETH for gas in the wallet
If your MetaMask wallet has no ETH on Arbitrum, you can’t send the USDC transaction even if the USDC is there. Buy a small amount of ETH and send it to your wallet on Arbitrum before withdrawing from Hyperliquid.
📋
Copying the address from the wrong place
Never type a wallet address manually. Always copy directly from the source — your MetaMask address field or your exchange deposit page. Malware exists that replaces clipboard addresses with the attacker’s address. Double-check the first and last 4 characters after pasting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not directly. Hyperliquid withdraws to a crypto wallet address, and that USDC lives on-chain. To get to fiat (dollars), you need a centralised exchange or on-ramp service like MoonPay, Ramp Network, or Transak that can accept USDC and pay out bank transfers or debit card top-ups. A CEX (Coinbase, Kraken) is the most reliable and lowest-fee route for most people, especially for larger amounts.
In the United States, converting USDC to USD is generally not a taxable event because USDC is a stablecoin pegged 1:1 to the dollar — you’re not realising a capital gain by converting between the two. However, the profits you made on your Hyperliquid trades (closing a leveraged BTC long at a profit, for example) are taxable as capital gains in the US. Short-term gains (positions held under a year) are taxed at your ordinary income rate. Long-term gains (over a year) have lower rates. This post is not tax advice — consult a tax professional, and look into crypto-specific tax tools like Koinly or CoinTracker to track your Hyperliquid trading history.
The fastest complete route is: (1) Withdraw USDC from Hyperliquid to MetaMask on Arbitrum — 5 minutes. (2) Send USDC directly to Coinbase deposit address on Arbitrum — 10 minutes. (3) Convert USDC to USD — instant. (4) Use Coinbase’s instant ACH withdrawal to linked bank — minutes to a few hours. Total time: under 2 hours in most cases, assuming your Coinbase account is already verified and your bank linked. If you need same-day and have a larger amount, Kraken wire transfer is the better route — initiated before 3 PM ET, it typically arrives the same business day.
Hyperliquid itself doesn’t impose traditional withdrawal limits like a CEX would — you can withdraw your full balance in one transaction. However, very large withdrawals may have a built-in delay or require additional confirmation as an anti-fraud measure. On the CEX side, your exchange will have daily or monthly withdrawal limits that vary by account verification level. Coinbase and Kraken both have higher limits for fully verified accounts with a linked bank — typically $50K–$100K+ per day on ACH, more on wire transfers.

The Bottom Line

The cash-out process from Hyperliquid to your bank account has four steps — withdraw to wallet, send to exchange, sell for USD, withdraw to bank — and takes 1–3 days total, mostly waiting on the bank transfer at the end. The crypto part moves in under 30 minutes when you know what you’re doing. The total fee cost is typically well under 1% of the amount you’re moving.
The biggest mistakes are preventable: have your exchange account verified before you need it, know which network your exchange accepts USDC on, keep a small ETH buffer in your wallet for gas, and always send a small test transaction first. Get those four things right and the rest is mechanical.

The cash-out process is something I had to figure out myself early on, and the first time I did it I sent a test transaction to make sure it worked before sending the whole amount. Still do. The network mismatch mistake is real — I’ve seen it happen and it’s painful. Set up your Coinbase or Kraken account now, verify your ID now, link your bank now. Don’t wait until you’re ready to cash out to discover the verification takes 3 days.
