⚠️ Not financial advice. This is an educational demo showing how the Hyperliquid interface works. FARTCOIN and all memecoin perps are highly volatile instruments. Never trade more than you can afford to lose entirely.
One of the things that makes Hyperliquid genuinely interesting is what it lets you trade. Not just BTC and ETH — but memecoin perpetual futures. PEPE, WIF, BONK, and yes, FARTCOIN. All available as perp contracts, on-chain, with no broker, no KYC, and full self-custody of your collateral.
I made this video to show exactly how the trading interface works in practice. Not a slideshow, not a diagram — an actual live trade, from finding the market to closing the position, with real commentary on each step. Whether or not FARTCOIN is on your watchlist, the mechanics are identical for any perp on the platform. If you’re new to Hyperliquid, start with the Ultimate Guide to Hyperliquid DEX and our step-by-step $100 beginner walkthrough first.
Why FARTCOIN? Memecoins like FARTCOIN are the highest-volatility, highest-volume plays in crypto. A coin that moves 20–40% in hours creates trading opportunities — and trading risks — that simply don’t exist on BTC or ETH. Hyperliquid’s HIP-3 permissionless market creation is why memecoin perps like this exist on-chain at all — anyone can launch a perp market, which means traders get access to assets that centralized exchanges haven’t listed yet.

What You’ll See in the Video — Step by Step

Here’s the written breakdown of every step in the live demo, so you can follow along or reference it later:
1
Connect wallet and check USDC balance
The demo starts with connecting a MetaMask wallet to app.hyperliquid.xyz. The account balance shows USDC in the perp trading account — that’s the collateral that backs any position. Before doing anything, confirm your balance is in the account (not still in your wallet as a pending deposit). If you need to set this up from scratch, the $100 beginner guide covers the deposit step.
2
Search for FARTCOIN and open the market
In the market search bar at the top of the trading interface, type “FART” — the FARTCOIN-USDC perpetual contract appears in the dropdown. Click it to open the chart and order book. You can immediately see the current price, 24h volume, mark price vs index price spread, and the live order book depth. The interface is clean and fast — no lag, no loading screens.
3
Read the funding rate before entering
Before opening any memecoin perp, check the funding rate — visible in the market info bar above the chart. A high positive funding rate means longs are paying shorts every hour. On volatile memecoins this can be significant — sometimes 0.1% or more per 8 hours, which is 3%+ per day just to hold the position. If the funding rate is very elevated, you’re fighting an uphill battle as a long. In the demo you’ll see how to read this and what it means for the trade decision. Our full guide to reading funding rates goes deeper on this.
4
Set leverage — keep it low on memecoins
The leverage selector is on the order panel. In the demo you’ll see me set a conservative leverage — low single digits on a memecoin. Here’s why: FARTCOIN can move 10–20% in an hour. At 10x leverage, a 10% move against you wipes the entire position. At 2x, the same move costs 20% of your collateral — painful, but survivable. The lesson in the video is clear: on memecoins especially, the leverage slider is the most important risk control you have. Treat it accordingly.
5
Place the order — market vs limit
In the demo I use a market order for entry — immediate fill at the best available price. You can see the order book showing the ask side and how the fill executes across it. A market order on a liquid memecoin perp on Hyperliquid fills in under a second, with minimal slippage given the order book depth. The order panel shows your entry price, position size in both USD and FART tokens, and your estimated liquidation price — always visible before you confirm.
6
Monitor the open position in real time
Once filled, the open position appears in the positions panel at the bottom of the interface. You can see unrealized PnL updating in real time, the current mark price vs your entry, funding payments accruing, and your liquidation price at all times. The demo shows the PnL counter moving — this is what live perp trading looks and feels like on Hyperliquid. No page refresh needed, no lag, fully on-chain settlement.
7
Close the position and review the result
Closing a position is as simple as clicking Market Close in the positions panel. The fill executes immediately, realized PnL is credited to your account balance, and the trade appears in your trade history. The full trade fee (0.045% taker on entry + 0.045% on exit for market orders) is deducted automatically. The demo shows the closing sequence in real time — it takes about 3 seconds from click to confirmation. Funds remain in your Hyperliquid account and can be withdrawn to your wallet any time.

Key Takeaways From the Demo

Speed is real
Sub-second fills, real-time PnL, no loading screens. The on-chain experience on Hyperliquid is genuinely competitive with centralized exchanges — not the slow, gas-expensive experience people associate with DeFi.
🔐
Your funds never left your control
The entire trade — entry, hold, exit — happened on-chain. At no point did Hyperliquid Labs take custody of the collateral. This is the structural difference from trading the same memecoin perp on Binance or Bybit.
⚠️
Memecoins are dangerous at high leverage
The demo intentionally uses low leverage on FARTCOIN. If you watched and thought “I’d do this at 20x” — please read the perp contract explainer first. Liquidation on a 20x memecoin perp can happen in minutes.
💡
The interface works the same for every market
FARTCOIN, BTC, gold, NVDA — the trading flow is identical. Once you know how to open and close a FARTCOIN perp, you know how to trade every market on Hyperliquid. That’s the point of the demo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — FARTCOIN (officially the “Fartcoin” memecoin on Solana) has a live perpetual futures market on Hyperliquid. It’s one of dozens of memecoin perps available on the platform thanks to HIP-3, which allows anyone to launch a permissionless perp market. The market has real volume, a real order book, and real funding rates. It functions identically to any other perp on Hyperliquid — the underlying asset just happens to be a memecoin with a name that makes people laugh. The trading mechanics are entirely serious.
There’s no minimum position size on Hyperliquid’s perp markets. You could technically open a $5 position. In practice, $50–$100 is a reasonable starting amount that lets you experience the mechanics without putting serious money at risk. Our $100 beginner guide walks through the exact setup from buying your first USDC all the way to your first live trade — the whole process takes about 20 minutes.
Buying FARTCOIN spot means you own the actual tokens — you profit if the price goes up, you lose if it goes down, and you hold the tokens in your wallet. A FARTCOIN perp (perpetual futures contract) is a derivative — you never own the underlying tokens. Instead, you have a position that tracks the price of FARTCOIN, with leverage available. This means you can go long (bet on price rising) or short (bet on price falling), and you can use leverage to amplify both gains and losses. The key differences: perps have funding rates (an ongoing cost/benefit depending on market direction), can be shorted without borrowing tokens, and use USDC as collateral rather than the actual memecoin. Read the full perp contract explainer if this is new to you.

Final Thought

I chose FARTCOIN for this demo on purpose. Yes, the name is ridiculous. But trading a memecoin perp on a fully decentralized, self-custody exchange with sub-second fills and a transparent on-chain order book is actually a remarkable thing. A few years ago this required a centralized exchange, a KYC process, and handing over custody of your funds. Today you can do it from a wallet in under two minutes.
Whether you ever trade FARTCOIN or not, the mechanics in this video are the same ones you’ll use for BTC perps, gold perps, or anything else on the platform. Learn the interface on a small position. Understand how leverage, funding rates, and liquidations work before scaling up. The platform rewards traders who understand it.

I make these videos because reading about how to trade a perp is very different from watching someone actually do it live. The goal is simple: by the end of this video and walkthrough, you should feel confident enough to open your first position yourself.
This post and video are for educational purposes only and do not constitute financial or investment advice. Perpetual futures trading and memecoin trading involve significant risk of loss. Leverage can result in losses exceeding your initial deposit. Always conduct your own research before trading. CryptoJag is not affiliated with Hyperliquid Labs.
